Title: Active Redwall Sites
Post by: The Lady Shael on June 10, 2011, 05:02:46 AM
What other Redwall websites out there are still active that you guys visit? There used to be a ton...a lot of them have gone inactive as members grow up. But there are still some out there keeping the ROC (Redwall Online Community) spirit going.

Here is a list of some active and semi-active Redwall-related websites (join them and keep the Redwall community spirit alive!)

Redwall Wiki (http://redwall.wikia.com/) (Redwall info resource and discussion community)
Redwall:Warlords (http://www.redwallwarlords.com/) (text-based game based on Redwall vermin warlords)
Vulpine Imperium (http://www.rovl.org/vi/) (vermin pirate role-playing game, a little buggy but the role-playing is great)
Redwall MUCK (http://rwmuck.limitless.org/rwmuck/) (real-time role-playing)
Redwall's Legacy (http://www.redwallslegacy.com/) (Redwall role-playing and discussion)
Redwall Survivor (http://redwallsurvivor.com/) (E-zine dedicated to ROC Survival contests)
Redwall Series Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RedwallSeries) (active facebook page for the Redwall series)

Semi-active:
Terrouge E-zine (http://www.terrouge.com/) (once centerpoint of the ROC, soon to release their Brian Jacques tribute issue)
Dibbuns Against Bedtime (http://dabdibbun.comxa.com/index.html) (legendary club site, unfortunately not very active)
DAB Playtents (http://www.dibbuns.proboards.com/index.cgi) (for some reason not linked from the original site)
Legends of Redwall Abbey (http://cometolora.proboards.com/index.cgi) (role-playing forum)
Long Patrol Club (http://www.longpatrolclub.com/) (Redwall news site)
Redwall Fanfiction Board (http://www.redwallfanfiction.com/forum/) (also known as the RFF)
The Redwall Encyclopedia (http://www.sullivanet.com/redwall/index.html) (once one of the greatest Redwall reference sites)
redwall.net (http://www.redwall.net) (another great info site...not longer updated but has recipes and book reviews)
Black Arch Fort (http://blackarchfort.webs.com/) (Roleplaying and club site)

Here is a list of more ROC links (http://wydran.webs.com/ROC_links.html), both current and old, compiled by Wydran.

It is a great tribute to the Great Brian J. Even though I never got to meet him in person when I read his work I felt  like I knew him well.

To be honest I think this site is all I'm going to be following from now on.  There's so many rumors about unpublished, unfinished Jacques books that I don't trust anyone besides the Redwall Abbey Team.  Also I hate checking inactive and semi-active sites--so unreliable.  Anyway thanks to those like LordTBT who update frequently; I'm sorry I don't have more patience!

To be honest, any website is only as active as the members who visit. It's true the website administrators must actively produce new content and development, but there's no drive for them to do it unless they know someone will be enjoying it. It is my sincere hope that this forum inspires fans to create their own tribute to this great series in website-form, whether it be an info/news site, club site, or game. 7-10 years ago, the ROC was at its peak in activity, and it was a wonderful thing. People made lifelong friends, others made soulmates. Some discovered their passions or life careers (me included). None of this would have happened if it wasn't for the Redwall series and the fan websites people created. The potential of recreating a Redwall Online Community should not be underrated.

True, so true. I belong to a few forums that are pretty small, but the members who post there are loyal, and they converse freely and regularly about whatever the topic at hand is. One of these forums in particular rarely sees any new members, but everyone there has become firm friends. I think is would be safe to say that this new Redwall forum has both the potential to be completely overlooked, and the potential to be something great. The future of this forum all depends on how committed we, the members, are in help the community to grow. I for one, will do my part to help make this community thrive. :)

I see the obvious upside to a fan site if it's a tool for posting news.  However the thing I'm worried about is how far fans will go as regards creativity--for example, making a game that could potentially end in the conquering of Redwall by vermin.  I know this isn't really a big deal, but now that Brian Jacques isn't able to defend his series by writing more books I guess I'm more sensitive as regards anything that could lead to ghostwriting or other "blasphemes".
Title: Re: Redwall websites
Post by: The Lady Shael on June 11, 2011, 05:37:17 AM
I'm sorry to hear you think that way. If you're put off by the vermin sites, just know that it's only another way for fans to express their creativity and love for the series. The vermin characters on those sites are not the "Haha let's kill goodbeasts and take over Redwall abbey"-type of characters, they are mostly "gray-area" characters who do have honor but still have their flaws (so like goodbeasts, just different races).

Most of the Redwall fan sites weren't about simply posting news...they were about building a community and relationships with other Redwall fans. Stifling creativity is never a good thing. BJ was all about creativity...he wouldn't have wanted us to hold back.

Exactly, Lady Shael.

We all make many friends and relationships about Redwall fansites. Vermin sites are just as much so, I'm actually as an otter a good friend of many of them. Vermin can be friends and naive, too.

No, of course not.  And after visiting your website, I am in full support of other vermin-based websites and games.  I know that to keep Redwall alive and popular for the new generations, websites and other forms of entertainment that use screens (ugh!) will probably have to be employed.  I know I'm an old-fashioned stick-in-the-mud, but at least I understand that websites are necessary.

So...as they say in the vernacular, "My B!"  I didn't mean to offend anyone who has a website, least of all you, Lady Shael.  While I won't be a member on it myself, know that I fully support what you're trying (and succeeding) in doing for the Redwall fanbase in general.

There is another website I have visited Redwall Muck(a role-playing website) and its semi-active.

Otherwise I don't know many Redwall sites still active.

Okay guys, here are some more that I found:
The Redwall Encyclopedia - Another good source of Redwall information, but somewhat dated
The Vulpine Imperium - An interactive club based in the world of Terrouge's Greenhawk
The Long Patrol - Probably the longest-running Redwall club in existence
Black Arch Fort - A forum-only roleplaying website

Cool, thanks for the suggestions guys. =) I always seem to forget about Redwall MUCK for some reason.

Do you have a link for Black Arch Fort, Mariel? I'll put the Redwall Encyclopedia up there, the other two are already on the list. :)

Has anyone mentioned http://www.redwallslegacy.com (http://www.redwallslegacy.com)?  As I began to search around for online communities, this one popped up.

I was impressed with Terrouge- great site.  Took an opportunity to read through tributes to Brian the other day...such heartfelt reflections, bravo!

Certainly glad this site is up and running.

Oh, and though it's not fully about Redwall, my new blog is definitely inspired by Jacques:  Check out Wot, Wot! at http://wotwotaboutbooks.wordpress.com/ (http://wotwotaboutbooks.wordpress.com/)

Nice! I think I've seen Redwall's Legacy before, glad to see they're still somewhat active. I didn't know they stemmed from Starfire's Redwall Abbey (legendary club site for you young'uns).

Also the reviews on your blog are great! It's great to see such dedication to the Redwall series.

Oh my goodness, I think Arven was in charge when I first joined... I was there through several ringleaders. I do remember trying to write a song for the DAB song contest, and the website tells me that it was held in February 1999, so... I was around then and for a couple of years afterwards. It was fun, wasn't it? Do you remember your username?

Way to go for making your own site! I have to say, that is an EPIC list of ROC links! I can't even imagine how much time it took to find all those.

I used to have my own Redwall site, long ago (OakShade Village).

[edit] That list really is amazing....I love how you added an activity status to each, and for those that are archived you linked the waybackmachine. A great coming-together of past and present Redwall sites.

Thanks! ^^ Yes, it did take quite a while but it was actually kinda fun. Looking at all the fansites just really fascinates me.And the status isn't really about activity, if it was then almost all the sites would be listed as 'inactive' unfortunately.

Also the list is far from being complete. I have about 36 more sites in the list saved on my computer, just have to re-upload the web page. And there's countless more sites out there to explore! x)

Shael, I think you were given a link to the old BAF. The site is semi-active and can now be found at http://blackarchfort.webs.com/

It's a beautiful and well-done site with some fantastic writers there. Also, a shameless plug for the Vulpine Imperium:

I have spent the better part of seven years writing on the VI. It is a role playing experience unlike any that I've had, and the majority of folks who were members there, both past and present, wholeheartedly agree. Don't think you like vermin because they're simple-minded and only think of killing woodlanders? Come to the VI and see a different class of vermin. I never thought I'd like writing a vermin character, but there is such depth of writing at the VI that it's become something of an addiction!

Some have mentioned the community in the ROC, and I must say that I have a batch of supportive friends all from the ROC (the VI in particular). We've all been inspired to write or draw in some way or another through Redwall—the books that brought us to the VI where we all met and found our passion for writing.

I am so glad this website was created so that it can be seen that the ROC is still alive and kicking, though perhaps not as hard as when I first stumbled upon this amazing community. Keep up the good work, everyone! We'll do Brian proud by introducing his tales to new readers so that they can continue the adventure with us.

Don't forget to check the year and date of news items or forum posts when surfing for Redwall sites...if it hasn't been posted on for the last couple months, it's not considered active.

I haven't been active in the ROC for years, but I thought it would be cool to check it out and see what was still around. Happy to see that DAB is still running even though it seems like there are not too many active members. Maybe I'll join some of these other sites that you all listed. Thanks!

I have this one, it's active, but would be doing alot better if there were more members.

http://redwallpoems.webs.com

And here's one Tiria Wildlough made recently, with me helping her. It's a roleplay site, with two members. But it could still be called semi-active.

Hey, just checking in to say RL is still very active.  ;) Thanks for the mention.

The other thing is (and this an invite, not a ad -but feel feel to delete if you feel it's soliciting) Redwall's Legacy started a Survivor Contest recently. I wanted to extend a personal invite to you guys. We're trying to unite the ROC a bit more and meet/reunite peeps from other sites.
Goodness, knows there are plenty of ROC pals I haven't RPed with in a while, lol.

If there's a topic for it here at the Forums, go there. You might find some information.

EDIT: I just checked the site. It works fine for me...

Redwall Wars Wiki (http://redwallwars.wikia.com/wiki/Special:WikiActivity) 's experienced a bit of a dry period, but me and some other fellow RPers have began to bump up its activity again.
Plenty of great roleplays just begging for new players, and I plan to revive the RWW Pass-Along Fic and some art and writing contests.

The RPGs are easy to access and comment to, and anyone can join them at any given time as long as a character form is submitted first.
Also, we have an easily-accessible Chatroom! If, er, that's brag-worthy xD

The URL for DAB is broken. The new one is dibbuns.proboards.com

We're still active! Small, yes, but active

Mostly roleplay, some discussion too. A strange lacking dabbing, however...

I shall join and bring upon you an influx of dabbing.
