Sky Ship Adventure
Welcome to the RP where I draw story scenes out!

OOC: See the adventure's prologue and signup here: http://www.redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=10106.0

BIC: Our adventure begins in the kingdom of Albion:
an affluent nation and one of the major cultural centers of the world.

To the north lies the mineral rich mountains of Adamantion.
Dwarves and men mine for precious crystals and ores for use in the construction of flying ships and various constructs.
At the base of the mountains is the Great Forest where fine wood is gathered for ships and houses alike.
Westward is the Port of Montressor with the largest port on the continent housing thousands of assorted merchant, frigates, and destroyer ships.
Further south are lush pasture lands where Albion's agricultural hub produces various crops and livestock trade.

To the west lies the floating capital. This is the center of trade where many merchants from distant lands come to trade.
The city bustles with numerous races and people groups.
At the pinnacle of Albion is the Cloudtop District where the wealthy residents and traveling ambassadors reside.
The capital city is held aloft by powerful levitation crystals constructed in the mainframe on the structure. The protrusion underneath houses the anchor crystals to keep the city from floating away.

Your ship, the AMS Predator is currently docked in what is known as the Equilateral Ridge on the floating city of Albion.
It is a large slit in the side of the saucer-like city where as many as a thousand ships could dock at once.
Captain Grimm has the crew loading the needed cargo for the voyage north to the city of Anchorhead.
The Predator is shipping valuable grain and manufactured components to the Anchorhead factories.
The ship makes frequent stops at neighboring cites and picks up and drops off passengers along the way (for a fee).

[As the crew goes about their work what are you guys doing?]

Rosie Willowwater

Laila quickly tossed a tray of diced vegetables into a boiling pot. She continued darting from side to side in her small kitchen, grabbing various herbs and spices and haphazardly throwing them into the pot. She was a marvelous cook no doubt about that, but with her assistant quitting and leaving Laila to take on double the workload, and the long day ahead of her she was not about to be cautious about her work.

OOC: In the background, I roll a six-sided die to determine outcomes and oye, rolled a low score for you :/
BIC: It was at that moment Laila realized that major mistakes were made when taking inventory and the kitchen was missing an entire crate of provisions.

[@Rosie Willowwater how do you deal with this situation?]
[What are our other characters doing in preparation before the Predator casts off?]

Rosie Willowwater

Laila threw down the lid of the crate in frustration. She would have to improvise with the available ingredients to serve  anything to the crew. She took a deep breath and buried her anger at everyone involved in this horrid day, then set off back to work. Her steps a bit heavier than before.

@Rosie Willowwater in the midst of your frustration you hear a rustling near the apple barrel.

[Do you investigate?]

http://shadowspyproductions.deviantart.com/art/005-Charting-Problems-688088950

@Groddil as ship's navigator, you are tasked with plotting the safest most direct course to Anchorhead.  Unfortunately a whirlwind from the west rapidly threatens to intercept your path the longer you stay in port.

[How do you compensate for the storm?]
[Do you inform the captain?]

http://shadowspyproductions.deviantart.com/art/006-The-Mad-Doctor-688089094

@Lord_Ashenwyte the ship has commisioned a brand new Bacta tank.  A bacta tank is a medical healing device.  It's a tall tube filled with a blue gel that has remarkable regenerative powers. A badly injured patient is placed in the tube and after half an hour, their wounds are cured.

You also privately aquired another device, one you've wanted for a very long time.

[What is this other device?]

http://shadowspyproductions.deviantart.com/art/007-Gentle-Giant-688089171

@The Skarzs you aquired your ship pass to journey with the Predator for as far as you wish.  While in the market, you picked up specal tools that you've always wanted to own as well as some precious ores, metal that you have never seen in your homeland.

Since you completed your tasks early you have spare time to enjoy the day.

[What sorts of tools/ore did you get?]
[Are there any other tasks you wish to complete before boarding?]

On the train at the moment. Will post in a few hours.

"...Will do."
Holding a map under one arm and a small pouch under the other, Krisastra Chandler left her younger sister behind, returning once more to the ship she found herself calling home more and more frequently. Always keeping an ear open and measuring devices, active, it was not long before the navigator came to a realisation. Jumping aboard, she quickly inspected the map and muttered numbers to herself, staring at the tempest that loomed on the horizon. She rapped Captain Grimm's door, hissing through a crack in the wood.
"Morgan. We've got a bit of an issue. North winds have changed with that storm coming from the west. Assuming the Predator can survive it, we'll be blown off course, weeks late to get there. We can beat the storm if we head east now and catch the offshore breezes, but we'd still be a week late. Or... No, no, its a big risk, but if we head west, we can get there on time. Provided the pirates don't kill us. I'll leave it up to you, I need to go pick up some replacement equipment, ever since Jensen wrecked the bloo- Talk later boss."
Chandler tossed the map into a nearby basket and made for the exit once more.

North winds have changed with that storm coming from the east.

OOC: Didn't you mean to say that the storm is coming out of the west?

BIC:

@Groddil This was not the first time you've left your sister behind.
You know very well she can handle herself but you can't help but feel sisterly concern for her.

Entering the captain's quarters, you briefly lay out the situation.
"Make it so.." Morgan declared as you exited the cabin.

Normally on a regulation vessel, a subordinate would not address their captain so blatantly.
Morgan was different however. He knew the way you did things differently and gave you leeway.

Something resonated between him and you.
Perhaps it was the fact that you lost close family or perhaps he reminded you of your brother.

You were not sure.

The business on deck engulfed you as you carried about your way procuring necessary items and equipment.
There was much to do and you very much wanted a moment to take it all in but you had to keep pressing forward.

Amidst the chaos, you spied an odd sort of contraption laying in a junk pile.
Upon further inspection, you recognized it immediately.
It was a small windsurfer much like the ones back home among the islands.
Like being sucked into another realm, long lost memories of surfing with your brother came rushing back to you.

Your heart aches.

Rosie Willowwater

Laila froze and stared at the barrel, watching for a sign of what was inside. Her whole body shook as she inched towards it and slowly pried off the lid, her heart in her stomach, to reveal... (Should I put what's in there or will you?)

UNKN0WN

(Little recap for Laila) Your frustration mounted and at the moment you almost felt like throwing your pot overboard.
Perhaps you were angry with the irresponsibility of the loading crew or with the fact that nothing ever came easy to you.
You had to fight for everything in order to get anywhere.

Even though the anger clouded your thoughts, you couldn't forget the respect you received from the ship's crew.
A cook's life aboard a ship was no easy task, in fact you found yourself struggling to prepare meals more often than you wanted.
However, the way you were venerated as an important part of the of the Predator's crew drew you in.

In the midst of your frustration you hear a rustling near the apple barrel.
Without warning, a foreign creature emerged one the likeness you've never seen before nearly frightening you out of your socks.
The bloby creature was akin to one of your bags of flour save for the duel furred ears flanking either side.

It made a cooing sound whilst staring up at you.

The Skarzs

Zernak wandered about the docks for a time, waiting for the Predator to be ready for the voyage since he was of no help to the crew. He thought about the new items he had purchased. . . a few tools he had wanted for a time, but more importantly, kurandan metal. He had never had the chance to work with this rare material before, though he had studied the uses and processes of it. It was going to be exciting to see what he might be able to make with it.
After walking for some time and getting tired of all the people about, Zernak decided to head back to the ship and see where they were at with the preparations.

OOC: By the way, what kind of sciences and/or magics are available in this world? Are the ships running off a steampunk-type power or the peculiar stones? Is gunpowder used in weaponry?

Lady Ashenwyte

Raphael turned from the Bacta tank to admire the Zofron Acquisitor he had obtained from old Zernak in the darker dredges of Albion, an extremely useful (and costly) device used in the prestigious medical schools of Montressor. The Acquisitor was  able to extract and process biological material, but unlike other devices which did the same, the Acquisitor was wrist-mounted and worked much faster than other such devices. The pinnacle of medical technology, Raphael thought, and made possible by dwarf craftsmanship and human ingenuity. It also contained a small injection device to administer medicine to patients. All in all, a very handy tool.

Seeing that there was nothing left to be done in the medical bay, he decided to head up to the deck to find some sort of amusement.
The fastest way to a man's heart- Or anyone's, in fact- Is to tear a hole through their chest.

Indeed. You are as ancient as the soot that choked Pompeii into oblivion, though not quite as uncaring. - Rusvul

The raw power of the device coursed through the coils sending your heart racing.
What a beautiful piece of machinery it was.

You were reasonably skeptical of a stone troll's crafting ability at first but were pleasantly surprised at Zernak's metalworking prowess.
You could certainly use one with such talents in your laboratory.

Once on deck you were made painfully aware of the crew's scramblings.
A signal bell from the Equilateral Ridge ship bay sounded warning of the Predator's imminent departure.
This surprised you cause the Predator wasn't due to cast off till later in the day.

You stood there puzzled as to the reason for the early launch yet you were already prepared for the journey.
All of what you wanted was already aboard.

Except for a certain troll ...

http://shadowspyproductions.deviantart.com/art/011-Metal-Ingots-689369238

OOC: @The Skarzs are you familiar with the film, Treasure Planet?
Technology there used lift crystals and some fantasy-like technology.
Not futuristic but fantasy like.
Also there is some magic in this world but it is uncommon.
Ships use energy crystal cannons (so do the guns).

Also, please read my first post on this board.

BIC: Positioned in a advantageous spot, you admire you purchases from the markets here on the floating city of Albion.
Unlike the humans, you did not require the aid of a cart to carry your inventory.  You could pick up the heavy ores with ease.
Much like a child laying out their marbles, you arranged your metal ingot collection.
You take out your ingot of Kurandan Ore to watch the colors of the metal glisten in the sunlight.

You were pleased with your accomplishments here in Albion city.
One of which was an ambitious project for a ship's surgeon.
You couldn't tell quite what it was for but surmised it possessed medicinal values.

You welcomed the challenge of crafting his device and in fact, it was some of your best work yet.
It's just the surgeon who you were making it for; something seemed off about him, you couldn't quite tell.
Anyway, you didn't question it much what with the handsome payment.

Amidst your inspection of your ore, you heard a loud clanging of signal bells signifying the Predator's imminent departure.
You had already been in excited anticipation for the launch but weren't expecting them to leave this soon.

The Skarzs

Zernak packed up his ingots and carried them into a pile of packages and crates, making sure it was not in the way. He looked around at the crew members bustling about, tryng to keep his bulk out of their way.

Laila shrieked in terror and leaped back from the crate helplessly scrambling away. She quickly snatched up an empty frying pan and began to slowly crawl back towards the little cat blob. She lifted up her weapon, but hesitated. She saw how defenseless and passive it looked and a wave of remorse rushed over her.  How could she hurt such a cute creature? She put down the pan and reached her hand out in an attempt to pet it.
