RP Contest (Judges choice event! A bonus point for every additional RP in which you post 4 times or more! Maximum of 3 extra points)

Set up an RP and have some fun! If you're struggling for some ideas, the judges have set up a few RP prompts for people to jump in with. By the time this contest is underway, the mods will have unlocked the posts for people to start RPing!
Rules include no god-moding, and to be considered for points, one must post at least 4 times in the RP while in character. Note that it's okay if your character doesn't come out on top! Posts are judged based off quality, so just because you win a huge battle doesn't mean you win the contest!
There are currently three RP prompts that have been set up and are ready to go. In order to streamline the process, each RP is coming with a pre-set cast to play as. Making your own character anyway is an option, though it will not get you extra points (emphasis is on the RPing, not character and plot creation). Here are the prompts:

The Great Sea Race

Link to this event

Prompt:
The mouse known as Captain Crash was the sailor of sailors – a real legend in her time. From humble beginnings, she had risen through the hardship that is a seafaring life until she, through a track record that solidified her name in history, established herself the unofficial yet highly regarded title of Queen of the Western Sea. Despite not being a real monarch, Her Majesty Captain Crash had amassed a fortune to rival even the richest of rulers.

Now she was dead.

What killed her still remains a mystery. In fact, very few creatures had seen the elusive mouse in recent seasons, and speculation ran wild. Though not as wild as what was announced to all sailors of the ocean following her death: in her last written word, Captain Crash promised her title and her treasure to go to the winner of a sea race. Anyone who won the race would become the new ruler of the Western Sea, take her treasure, her fortresses, and all else that was once hers.

The beach of a small island was lined with ship crews of all shapes and sizes: searats, corsairs, privateers, villagers, all from the far reaches of the great blue, stood anxiously with their varying-sized crews on the sand. Everyone's ships were moored on the shore, waiting for the race to begin. The rules were simple: when the start of the race was announced, sailors must push their vessels into the water and race across the sea to the island of Ami-Jowi. How they got there did not matter, but the first to get their ship there and claim the golden oar on the island's sandy shore would be the new heir to Captain Crash's throne. The way was not short of peril, and conflict on the open waves would surely ensue, but that was life at sea and part of the risk.

A shadowed figure nodded to Catamello, the now former advisor to the late Sea Queen. He emerged onto a broad balcony overlooking the beach and put his paws up to silence the creatures on the beach below. He said very little. "In honor of Captain Crash's last written orders to her crew, whoever among you is the first to sail across the sea and claim the golden oar on the shore of Ami-Jowi Isle will inherit the late Queen's treasure, her title, and all that she possessed. When I drop my paws, the race will begin. May the wind always fill your sails and may your journeys be quick. Ready, let the race begin!" As the queen's late advisor dropped his paws, all crews on the beach rushed to their ships and began the task of getting them back into the water.

Crews and Vessels:

  • Hares from Salamandastron aboard the Wave Wanderer, headed by Captain Carmen O'Foster Bobo and a crew of a score (20).
  • Searats from nowhere in particular aboard the Floating Flea, headed by Captain Sceever and a crew of two and a half score (50).
  • Corsairs (also from nowhere in particular) aboard the Bloody Barrel, headed by Captain Damian, Terror of the High Seas, and a crew of two and a half score (50).
  • A group of seemingly peaceful island mice aboard the Holly Hopper, headed by Captain Split and a crew of 15.
  • A ragtag group of sea otter outlaws aboard the Freewave, headed by Captain Ogagan and a crew of 15.
  • ___________ aboard the ___________, headed by Captain __________ and a crew of ____________ (player's choice! Neither adds nor takes away judging consideration to choose to make own team).

How to play (everyone please read)!
To be considered for points, one must post in the RP at least 4 times. Judging is based off of quality of post. The winner of the race is not necessarily the winner of the RP in judging. That title goes to whoever does the best job with progressing the story and playing their part.

Players will RP as vessel Captains and their crews. One may play as other characters, but may not god-mode. If a dispute should arise, then the post that caused the problem should be re-written (this expedites the problem-solving process and allows for the RP to carry on). Bickering does not bode well for when judging comes around.

Anyone may jump in at any time. The sea is big! So it's okay if ships disappear from view and come back later. Though we encourage interaction.

Redwall Under Attack!

Link to this event

Prompt:
They said it would never happen again, but now it is and the situation is more dire than ever. This morning, the Redwallers woke up to the shout of Brother Fred coming from the Western wall top. Below him on the path was a vicious conglomerate of vermin.

Mother Abbess Hannah was called and she spoke with them. Hannah is a feisty field mouse, don't let her age fool you! A former adventurer herself, the insults she hurled at the vermin, who were very clear about their intentions to kill and plunder, were enough to make even the Skipper flush.

Now Redwall is in a predicament: 25 score vermin (500) are on the path and they will be attacking the abbey at any moment. It has been seasons upon seasons since the last warlord had tried to take Redwall. Worse yet, this is the first time in a great while in which there has not been an abbey warrior (rather, the Skipper, Foremole, Lead Treejumper and Abbess have been covering for the role). One thing the abbey creatures do have, however, is history. A history which recounts, in full, the details of previous warlords, their tactics and their mistakes. It's all a matter of digging up the right documents and figuring out what to do before it's too late!

Playable Characters

Abbess Hannah: a former adventurer who found her home at Redwall, Abbess Hannah is an older fieldmouse with a witty tongue in her mouth. She always has a response. While she can remember how to take care of herself from her younger days, she has never had to defend an entire abbey from an army!

Skipper: This relatively young, male otter and his team are the closest the abbey has to warriors. Skipper has been in a brawl before, and is a natural team leader. While spear fishing is one of his strengths, war is not.

Foremole: A good, humble creature who is usually rather shy when speaking in front of great groups of creatures. However, nobeast in the abbey is as good with a hammer and nail as the good ole foremole and his crew! Carpentry is second nature to him.

Champion Treejumper: Lady Ellen leads the abbey's squirrels. She is an acrobat through and through, and is much younger than the Abbess, Skipper and Foremole. Strangely enough, though, a bow and arrow is not her game. In fact, she has always focused on treejumping, never combat! This is new territory for her.

Brother Fred: The abbey librarian. He will be essential in the quest to find out more information from the Abbey library on how to stop the vermin they are facing. He may be older, but his eyes are sharp and his bones stronger than ever! He should not be underestimated.

Zanna Crowely the Plunderer: When an immovable object meet an unstoppable force, it creates a Giant Rat named Zanna Crowely. She comes from the South and has no interest other than to loot, pillage and plunder. Many have tried standing in the feared warlord's path, but none have been able to stop her yet! Even worse, her army has grown in both reputation and size, and it reaches far in front of where she goes. A skilled beast in combat with her flail, and a masterful strategist, it will take more than an immovable object to stop Zanna Crowely!

Rune: An almost dwarfish-sized fox who is also Zanna's seer and advisor. Starting out as a slave in Zanna's army, Rune has raised herself higher than the Zanna's captains on nothing but her wit and will to survive.

The Skirmish of Scoff!

Link to this event

Prompt:
Salamandastron, the great mountain fortress on the West coast of Mossflower country and home to the famed Long Patrol and Badger Ruler, had stood for eons. Immutable to the elements of nature, the long dead volcano shell was among the most powerful symbols of security and order in a thousand-league radius from its base. However, something was happening – something not able to be discerned from the eerily quiet, moonlit beach. No. The chaotic rumbling was coming from inside the mountain! There was a battle going on in the enormous kitchens of the great fortress, and it was at its climax. The atmosphere was thick with delightful, smokey flavor as a more than a score of hares, in teams of two and three, dashed to and fro about the fray, trying to concoct a dish that would out-perform all the other competitors.

Meanwhile, the mess hall had never been more full in all its seasons of existence. Every table was jam-packed with hungry hares (creatures notorious for their seemingly bottomless stomachs) shouting and jeering amongst one another while they waited for the food to be served. Even the Badger Ruler herself, Lady Elle the Hammer, struggled to hide her eagerness for the food to be served and the judging to begin. Of the thirty or so hares that were waging war in the kitchen, only one team would be crowned victors and receive the prize: triple the regular hare's ration for a week!

A lot was on the line for the perilous beasts fighting in the kitchen. Which team of valiant vittlers would emerge from this bake-off brawl, this... clash of cutlery, this... SKIRMISH OF SCOFF!

Characters / Teams
Lance Corporal Carmen O'Foster Bobo (and two older brothers): Carmen is, well, clumsy to say the least... But her heart is in the right place. There's not a soul at the mountain, save for maybe the badger ruler herself, that cares as much about the jolly ole patrol as Carmen does. That's why she dragged her two older brothers into the mix when she heard about the cookoff! Not being very experienced in the culinary arts, both of her brothers seem to know what they're doing.

Private Barnaby Bucks (plus Adam, Barnaby's sidekick and partner in crime): A short, mischievous young 'un, still in training as a leveret. Barnaby has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to making sure his dish is best (though it may come at the expense of some others if they're not careful)! Don't be too hard on him, though. He means well and he's a good lad.

Private Serafina (and her two best friends, Ben and Ned): Serafina has wanted to become a cook for the mountain's kitchens since she was just a little one. But a snafu in her scheduling (also known as "sleeping in past her try-out"), Serafina is determined to prove herself as the best cook at the mountain. Anything as long as it's not getting sent out to walk for a hundred leagues on end!

Sergeant Cornspurry (and two leverets he's pushing rather hard): This team makes quite the sight! What, just because Cornspurry is a drill sergeant doesn't mean he can't vicariously achieve his dreams through his leverets? Don't be silly! Insults will fly, panic will be abundant, and dinner will consist of a delicious soup o' blood and vinegar! (well, not really, but you get the idea)

Leverets Darcy and Darius Starbuck: A late entry into the contest, this brother and sister had risked falling asleep in drills all week by staying up all night practicing dishes and planning recipes. They are the overachievers of their class and have a lot riding on this. But how far will pure motivation and determination really take them into the battle?

If I was to make an entry would I have to specify that it was for the contest?

Also, what exactly does "related to Brian Jacques' works" mean? Could I make a drawing of a member's character or character I made up for the Redwall universe, and enter that?

Captain Tammo

#2
Not necessarily, but it would help the judges find it easier! We'll be looking at every post from between November 1 and December 15th for contest entries.

"Related to Brian Jacques works" means just that. This requirement was kept somewhat vague to allow as many different kinds of entries is possible. So if you would like to enter in a drawing of a member's character or your own character, that is perfectly acceptable!
