The "Foogledumm durr" song (probably spelt wrong) from Triss (I think) is one of my favorites. But I haven't finished all the books yet, so...liable to change.

Because I lent out my copy of Marlfox, and I've had the hardest time finding another copy.
A bit of an obscure one, but Education from
Triss. It's a clever and fun little song. One of the three/four I memorized, actually.

There were a lot of songs, and a lot of them I kind of skim over. None of them have really caught my interest for whatever reason. There were a couple sad ones that I remember reading all the way through, but almost all the silly ones and the Guosim rowing songs weren't worth reading completely.

I'm guilty of skimming, too.
I only found out that I liked some of the songs when I was able to hear them on YouTube. Other than that...eeeeeehhh......
I skipped the long boring and heartfelt songs in preference of the jaunty, usually hare-themed songs that were fast and furious. A lot of the songs I liked were in Long Patrol... I'm guilty of memorizing them.

I think the reason its so sad is because its so sweet, and it makes you remember Rose

It's the tune of the song that makes it sad. It feels good to be sad sometimes. (Now that's an odd thing. Me enjoying an emotion, plus it being a negative emotion.)

I spend a lot of time listening to Redwall music, and this one has to be my favorite. Not that there aren't a lot of contenders, this one is just really good IMO.
If you skim you are a terrible, revolting excuse for a fan! I've mem'rized a good few of the songs.
I wouldn't blame a Shakespeare fan for skimming.
I wonder if Brian thought up tunes for every song, or just made poems and said they were songs. Because in song writing, I'm pretty sure you need to make the music first, and then the lyrics.
I remember one of the question he was asked was similar to that. He said that he made up the tune in his head as he wrote and every song had one.
Well, he was a singer at one time, I believe, so he must have had a knack for it.

Some of my faves in random order:

I liked Awkward Squad and Hop Hop Hop.
I'm not crazy about most of Brian Jacques' songs, even though he was an excellent poet, but there are some I love. "Goodbye, My Friends, and Thank You" from Martin the Warrior was one I heard in the audiobook and loved as a kid. Now I still like the song itself alot, but wish the singer was a bit better.
Another one that's absolutely beautiful is one I've never heard put to music from the book Eulalia.
"Let me wander here forever through the glades where once I played / Long ago in carefree seasons mid the noontide sun and shade. There are so many wonderful songs. :) But a few of my favourites are the Rose Song from Loamhedge, Goodnight from Mariel of Redwall, Ladies from Loamhedge and Hog Stamp Paw Clap (Don't know if that's really the name) from The Legend of Luke I think it is.

A nice comical ditty, Triss was by far not the best Redwall book but in my opinion it had one of the best overall quality of songs,
this being a perfect example, another one would be "Education"

To be honest, I usually skip reading the songs but I do believe I like that gory rendition Kite Slayer sang in Rogue Crew and the reactions she got from the hares for it. XP Shame she was interrupted for their commentary.

Ahh, I'm not the only person who skims through the songs, then! Sometimes I make myself read them, and even find them decent, but I dunno... I just have a short attention span for reading songs in books for some reason. Was the same for Tolkien's novels.
I'm really curious to hear the audio versions being posted here, though. Listening to the songs I do have the attention span for! Must have a listen through soon. :)
I usually just read vermin songs and otter songs and the songs that are meant after a character has died. The rest I just skim. Because we all know hares are hungry, 5,700 songs about it gets old.

My favourite song is in Mattimeo. I still remember it, having memorized it 15 years ago, but I don't remember the scene in which it was sung or even who sang it. That's not helpful at all, but the lyrics play through my mind now and then. Back when I was little, I'd try to sing aloud every song I came across in the books.
I also have a favourite battle song but heck if I remember which book it's from. I'd know it if I saw it.
Though there's nothing sentimental or celebratory about them, I really enjoy the songs that Keyla sang in Martin the Warrior to Rose to help Brome, Martin, and Felldoh escape. They're simply hilarious.

The person who said that it is what it is like to read a Redwall book was correct. I love this song.
My favorite was probably the one at the end of Marlfox. The one about how the bee stung the hare.
How about The Slaughter of the Crew of the Rusty Chain, from The Bellmaker? After all, what's not to love about a truely gruesome searat shanty? It's only a pity the Redwallers shut Slipp and Blaggut up before they could finish.
