Title: Castaways of The Flying Dutchman
Post by: Blaggut on May 20, 2016, 08:11:59 AM
Finished the first book recently! It was quite different in style to Redwall, but I still loved it. Could have been changed for the better I think, though. It was very captivating, particularly the first parts. Finished it in a day or two.

As odd as many may think it, I've always preferred this series over the redwall series. I understand myself to be vastly in the minority.  ;)

Same. I don't know why, and they're very close for me, but Castaways has something that makes me like it more.

I like them about even. The one thing Redwall has over this series is that it's got more books. Castaways is just fun all around and unique. I don't think I've ever read a series quite like Castaways.

I wish Mr. Jacques let Steven Spielberg make a movie on this series. I understand why he turned down the offer... But I would've loved to see a movie adaption!

This series is amazing and I wish it would have gone on longer. Hope you like it, Prez!

I've read The Angel's Command, but haven't come across any more in the series.

Okay, so I finished the first one today.

It gets good again really late on in the book, once Ben's Sueness takes a backseat (until the last couple chapters). We got some really funny villains and a sad ending with Winnie the Pooh, and my overall impression of this book was that it had a great old times atmosphere and was well written, but had a main character that could have been done better.

Overall, my last impression of the book was that I liked it despite its flaws.

Am I weird when I say that Winnie had a crush on Ben? :-\
I'm that person... Brian never put much romance in his work

Erg?
I sure hope you mean Amy had a crush on Ben. Winnie was the old lady. That's...creepy as all get out.

I mean, Ben was waaaay older than Winnie, so really... ;D

Just kidding. ;D I'm sure Delena meant Amy.

Even so. He's in a teen's body. >:(

Winnie still loved her dead husband.

Am I the only one who couldn't stop thinking "Simpsons" every time they mentioned Mr.Smithers?

I'm still reading it I like it so far, but I would have liked more seafaring adventure. I feel that when the ship is on the cover and the name is Castaways of the Flying Dutchman I thought that the flying dutchman would play a much larger role.

The Flying Dutchman definitely plays a role in the story! But there's not much seafaring in the first book of the trilogy. The second and third books, though, take place on the water quite a bit!
