Ever find yourself wondering what life would be like as one of the vermin characters of the Redwall books? Instead of a world with mostly woodlanders and a few vermin, what would one look like with a vermin society where woodlanders were absent? Even more, what would a vermin society be like with a full governmental system complete with Ministries and their respective Factions, including a powerful Navy of swashbuckling sailors?
Wonder no more! A place such as this exists! The Vulpine Imperium (aka the VI) is an Empire far from Mossflower and is unknown to the gentle beasts of Redwall Abbey. Its capitol is Amarone where His Grace the Emperor dwells. Not far from Amarone is Bouillabaisse Harbor, known colloquially as Bully Harbor. Bully Harbor is the center of life and civilization in the Vulpine Imperium. Though not the capital of Vulpinsula (the main island of the Imperium), it hosts all the Ministry's main buildings, as well as the Navy's docks and warehouses. There is very little reason to visit the rest of the island, apart from needing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
You can inhabit this wonderful place as a denizen of the Imperium, particularly as a member of its Navy if you so wish. Though being a landlubber is safer, the adventures had at sea by the beasts of the Imperial Navy are things of legend!

Once you create your vermin character, you can begin your adventures by writing in the forum of your ship, called the Ship's Mess, or you can visit the Bilge in the Bucket forum for on land adventures. Nah it didn't die. Although, it isn't nearly as active as it once was. I mean the place literally used to be booming with activity. It was one of the original sites I was on, that and The Horde. I'm still on there now as Kaden Winder(Aka Afraid to Get Wet). Place is still fun

Sadly, maintenance on the activities part of the site has slowed a bit, but the members stay loyal and have all become close friends, and they are always excited to see new people join in to keep the legends going.

Who was your character? And yeah, the activities are sort of buggy, but I find that most people come to the site to just write anyways. For very few are the activities the attraction to the place. The writing experience, on the other hand, is fantastic. Some very talented writers there. I started there back in early high school not long after the site was created and the VI improved my writing abilities one hundred-fold. Pretty awesome.
I was Shael Varonne, but my character has been long-dead. I created another account recently, Shael X. Varonne, just to stay in touch with the VI community. VI and RWL are sister sites, after all. :)
Wow, you were there before I was! Very cool. Yeah, I've always wondered about the other sites on rovl.org, but never got much into the game side of things. Would rather just write. :D

Activity at the VI is going strong! Now is better than ever to join and jump in on the fun and awesome writing going on at the site.
A few of the current happenings:
- A new Faction of detectives was created to help the police force in solving crimes and mysteries throughout the Imperium!
- The Indigo Platycodon, Bully Harbor's own dark vigilante, is on the loose again, but the Fogeys (police force) are hot on his tail in a rooftop chase!
- The Golden Hide, the fastest ship in the Navy, is in the throes of a wild storm. Will she survive the wind and waves to sail another day?
- What's this, another fight in the Bilge in the Bucket, the most popular tavern in Bully Harbor? Of course it is! Any night is good for a rollicking bar fight, and tonight beasts are swinging from the chandeliers and fists are flying!

Sorry for the double post, but I'd like to share the new, exciting Imperium-wide plot that is happening at the VI:
Recently scourged by Scrout and his crew, Bully Harbor is recovering from the attack. However, not more than several weeks following the invasion, beasts start to go missing. At first the reports being received by the Fogeys do not seem out of the ordinary, but when the Mayor goes missing, it is apparent a new attack of sorts has been unleashed upon Bully Harbor. Investigations begin, headed up by the Fogeys and CDA. What they discover has happened to the missing beasts is a terrifying reality. The Golden Hide and the Blackship race to lands beyond the Imperium in order to save the captured Mayor and his fellow prisoners from a grisly and abysmal fate.
It's not too late to join in on the adventure! Join the VI for this and more amazing action on the high seas. You won't regret it!

Anywho, indeed the VI is a wonderful place. Though I joined before I was much of a BJ fan, I had only read half of Taggerung beforehand. But the VI has shaped me into a new person, and has given me writing skills I couldn't claim otherwise. Ye'll enjoy! I swear it or yer money back! (What? We're not charging?!) That's right, kits! The VI is free! though ye already knew that...
And now time for some of the VI'splot updates:
Cult Games: Many beasts have been kitnapped by slavers and forced by a cult known as "The Brotherhood" to fight in the arena, TO THE DEATH! Join now as a captured beast or a part of the rescue party.
Revolutions?: Though ye didn't hear it from me, there's talk of rebellions and coups about. Keep an eye out for more!
Empty ships: Mutiny I tell ye! If ye do join be sure to transfer to the <i>Golden Hide</i> as it is our main active ship. Best place for new beasts to hop in!
Did somebeast say "pirates"?: Recently the pirate captain Murckle Mack launched an attack on a Navy vessel! And news in the Slups is he's out for recruiting! Join the pirate life now while ye still can laddies! (And lassies, femmes can slit a throat too ye know.)
Random activity boost: A few weeks ago we happened to have four (that's right, all four paw fingers there!) new players join. And seemingly on the same day too! Our Ship's Mess thread exploded with new posts (I believe close to 100 posts per day?) And with this brought new introductions and flavors to the stew of madness that is our site's character interactions.
So aye, now is the best time to join, re-join, or put away the angry birds and post once in awhile! Because now the VI is running, and there are big plots up ahead in store for ye to enjoy and partake. See ye there mates! "And may the blessings of his grace the emperor fall down upon ye like a golden fog."

Ships:
The BlackShip has a new Captain! Raven Brinewater, an intrepid and hard-working weasel, is leading the crew on a perilous mission through a jungle populated by cannibal tree rats. The crew is just now charging the rat encampment to free their captured crew mates before they are made into an evening meal for the cannibal beasts.
The Golden Hide was recently set afire by its own Captain, the crazed Minister of War Armina Rogue. She abandoned ship to set forth on a mad quest to kill the Emperor. The First Mate, Aleyah Malik, took over as Captain and is leading the crew on a mission to search for more information on the anarchist group, Maelstrom. They may just find more than they were expecting!
The Skeered of Nothing has been neglected for years, shipped out in the harbor as a prison ship, populated by the dregs of society -- petty criminals and low lifes of Bully Harbor. Its former Captain, Mackenroe Rokford, the proud one-eyed lizard, has returned from a long tenure away from the Imperium to find his ship in a derelict state. He seeks to return the Skeered to her former glory no matter what the cost.
On shore, the Minister of Commerce was captured and ransomed by the mysterious anarchist group, Maelstrom, during a street masquerade party. Now the Fogeys, the police force of the Harbor, are increasing security measures with the fox Commander Brek Larks as head of the new operations. The newly instated Minister of Niceties, the fox Marquo Senderjay (after he ousted former MinoNice, the drunken and malcontent Zilaco Wyndshard) is weaving a web of intrigue in order to bring stability back to the chaotic Imperium. Meanwhie a plot is unfolding in the shadows to kill the Emperor, Vladimir I.

Updates on happenings:
The high influence families of the Imperium are hosting an outdoor party. Intrigue, espionage, and maybe even some punch are on the menu at this event.
The BlackShip is currently on a mission to the Anvil Islands in search of a rouge crew that challenges the might of the Imperium.
A huge revolution has just been completed. Through the blood shed stand those true to the Imperium's cause.
Bridger Vorsky has assumed the title of Minister of Commerce in this new season.
There's more as well, but this will give you an idea of what we're up to. Drop on by. The site is very active as is the Skype page for the site. Access to Skype page is not hard to come by.

Excellent! Excellent! Do you happen to have Skype or think you could get it? It's possible to have an entirely anonymous account there-I only ask because we have a text chatroom on there that makes it extremely easy for people to come up with plots together and ask questions. We have an on-site way of doing it through PMs and OOC boards, but those have kind of fallen by the wayside in favor of Skype. It's definitely not mandatory, but it will heighten your experience a lot.

After a somewhat prolonged period of slowdown thanks to an administrative change, I am proud to report that the Imperium is back, and comparatively active. We have now also added a newbie FAQ in the Bilge OOC, detailing the current main plot and other considerations that new members should know (though it is still a work in progress!). A good amount of old members are coming back and we're entering a new phase on the VI so now would be an excellent time to join!

However much you want it to be. Currently, we're having some server trouble, but our site admin has been contacted and he is working on a solution so we should have it back up soon. There are people who post every two, three days, and people who post every day. Generally, if you want a position of power or an officership, you try to be active as much as you can, but being a regular member is pretty easy-smheezy to do. We're a pretty relaxed bunch.
Main page is back up, we're hoping it can be fixed by the weekend or something.
And we're officially back up! Hurrah! Server issues have been fixed, though things might be a little slow until our members not in the Skype text chat group(which we highly encourage you to join in the event of issues like this that take down the actual site itself) realize that the site is not, in fact, dead.

First name? I don't see why not. So long as they aren't actually a Redwall character, of course. We have had a lot of interesting name combinations of the years. For example, IceRain Sleet was one of the most memorable Ministers of War the Imperium. ;D.

Entirely hidden except for the administrators, used solely for password retrieval and the like. You can be entirely anonymous on the VI if you wish. You can also chose to just use a throwaway email service like Guerrilla Mail or Mailinator if you are hyper paranoid and don't want the administrators to know who you are :P.

You join up and are assigned to a ship. The Golden Hide and The Black Ship are the only current ships.
The idea of the site is that you are in an all vermin empire, and are always in character except for on area. You can make your character however you want but you will only get one for free so be sure that you like how you make it because money is hard to get unless you're me.

This is the on land section of the site. All on land RPs should go here. This is also where the OOC section is.

Here you can put money into a savings account and get very little interest and take out loans.

Here you can learn hobbies. Publishing, write a book and then sell it. Carving, carve stuff and sell it, Woodworking, make furniture and sell it. Bottling Boats, make bottled boats and sell them. You can also keep the stuff you made.
The Casino
Slot Machine Push button and might get money. Play Black Jack for money. Is called Twenny-Wah on there. I'm not sure how to spell the last one but you bet some money and guess a number, if you're right you get money I guess, I've never won this, if you're wrong you loose you're money.

Alts are alternate characters. You pay 1,150Gs and get to create one. You can change anthing but the name.

Talinn, former Minister of Misanthropy, and Vito, former Minister of Commerce. I basically led the two player villain factions on the site (MAUL and the Furotazzi Family) for quite some time, the former with the help of Zilaco for a bit!
OK, I know who you were, I've read both your death notes among others for lack of anything better to do.
I -may- come back to run another antagonist faction since the Bilge is effectively dead, but I'll see about my availability and other details. I did write the Newbie FAQ and Comprehensive VI History thread (see the Bilge OOC) on there for new players to get you up to speed on things, they are still fairly up to date although the site does seem to have a current Minister of Commerce or Minister of Misanthropy. The remaining active admins are Nadia Darkon (Minister of War), Anithias Freedom (Mayor), and Karath Nikolas (Minister of Niceties), so you can poke them for questions or interaction too (although Nadia is currently rightfully busy with her own life at the moment, handling a baby and a job, tough woman!).
Oh, and we did vote on various reforms to upgrade the site from 2003 to 2016, including expanding the species list to include woodlanders (goodbeasts from Redwall like hares, otters, mice, and squirrels) in the species list, but we don't have an ETA on that because our coder has sort of vanished.
Raden is planning something to try and get the site some activity, I'm not sure what though.
Maybe I'll join.

I'm pretty sure the BlackShip is inactive. If it is you can go to 'Upgrade Rank' then click 'Leave the Navy' next time the Goldenhide is in port you can pretty much do the same thing to get on it.
Edit: Yes you will want to get off the Blackship, it's been at sea for months if not years.
